Budget: Rs.1200 crore for financial restructuring of Air India

The General Budget for 2010-11, presented to Parliament today by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, has provided Rs 1200 crore for the financial restructuring of the National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL), formed to run national carrier Air India after its merger with Indian Airlines in 2007.

The amount has been included in the outlay of Rs 9558.30 crore for the Ministry of Civil, of which the budgetary support is Rs.2,000 crore.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been provided with a budgetary support of Rs.600.50 crore, out of which Rs.120.50 crore has been earmarked for development of airports in the North-Eastern States.

The remaining Rs.480 crore is for the development of airports in other crucial areas like Leh, Ajmer, Agatti, Port Blair, Tirupati and Pudducherry and the satellite-based navigation project (GAGAN).

A provision of Rs.40 crore has been made for development of a helipad at Rohini in Delhi and for a helicopter training institute/heliport in Pune by Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd.
